The Expats by Chris Pavone

About the Book: The Expats (Crown, 6 March 2012)

Ex-CIA agent Kate moves to Luxembourg with her husband who is starting a new job. Life as a housewife and stay-at-home mother of two is not all it's cracked up to be and her husband is definitely keeping something from her.

What I Think

This book has everything you want from a thriller: easy to read, pacy and unpredictable. Pavone makes good use of non-chronological order to keep the reader hooked. The big action is happening 'today', but each chapter has only a snippet of today's events and then it jumps back to a previous time. This builds suspense as you want to keep reading to find out what's happening.

Each of the four main characters has a deep secret. As Kate is trying to unravel the details of her husband's seemingly unethical world, she desperately tries to keep a lid on her own dark past.
