Rumours
“I take it you’ve heard?”
“Heard what?” Even as Patsy said it, she knew the news was going to be about Paul.
“He’s getting married.”
“Bastard,” she whispered.
“Yes, I agree,” Bianca said. “To that girl, of course, and I heard she’s pregnant.”
“Pregnant?”
“Umm…yes. I mean, maybe.”
“How far along is she?”
“I don’t know.”
“You don’t?”
“No, really I don’t. Can’t be more than a couple of weeks.”
Patsy raised an eyebrow. “Let’s not put any money on that, eh?”
“Oh darling, you must be feeling horrible.” Bianca reached out and touched Patsy’s hand.
“You know what? I don’t feel anything.”

Flash Fiction diary
This week I wrote my 100th piece of flash fiction! I can't believe I've written over 100 pieces since I started this project in May. A month or two ago I did decide that I couldn't write a piece every day, so now I write five a week; one piece a day Monday to Friday. That's working much better.
I also had my first article published in The Unofficial Brit Writers Blog: My Writing Life - then and now. Click here to read!
I've also stepped, rather gingerly, into the 21st century and have set up a twitter account! If you'd like to follow me, I can be found bumbling my way through this technology @laurabesley
And yes, the names are an Eastenders joke!

Flash Fiction is short enough to read whilst you're waiting for the kettle to boil. It's fairly quick to write too, but with it being so short, every word has to count. On 4th May 2012 I decided to embark on a project: to write a piece of Flash Fiction every day. I'm hoping this will keep the creative juices flowing and ultimately help me hone my craft. Every Friday I'll be posting 'the best of the week' onto my blog for you to read. If you have anything to say (good or 'constructive'!), I'm open to comments.
Thanks, as always, for reading.
So gossipy! It's almost a shame she exits feeling nothing, you know?
ReplyDeletehaha! That's very true!
DeleteYes, very gossipy. Is she pretending she feels nothing, or is she numb? I want to know more!
ReplyDeleteI think she's pretending she feels nothing!
DeleteI've overheard snippets like this at nearly every wedding I've been too. Gossips love a wedding. I think she's pretending as well!
ReplyDeleteYou're certainly right about gossips loving a wedding!
DeleteOh Bianca, I think you should have shown a bit more decorum and brought a bottle of wine to the evening instead of this.
ReplyDeleteWine probably would've been very welcome! ;)
