Wednesday Write-in

This is the first time I've tried the Wednesday Write-In. I'm very excited about it and hope to be able to do it regularly. Please read on to find out more about it!

CAKE.shortandsweet runs a write-in every week to writers to practise their skills, and get chatting to each other about their work. Everyone is welcome to join in, and the more people you tell, the more everyone will get out of it.

This week's Prompts

amber  ::  dark chocolate  ::  heather  ::  dry wood  ::  damage

The Amber Suite

Heather took a deep drag on her Malboro Light cigarette and exhaled slowly. She carefully unwrapped a piece of dark chocolate and plopped it into her mouth. “This is good shit, this is!”
“Nothing but the best ‘ere, Love!” Jackie laughed and took a sip of Nescafé, black with one sugar. “Much better than milk or white, that’s for sure.”
Heather stubbed out her cigarette and smiled. “So, what’s on the list for today?”
A crumpled piece of blue lined paper appeared from Jackie’s apron pocket. “Diamond Conference Room, Emerald Suite and Amber Suite. Boss Man says to give the table some extra elbow grease in the Amber 'cos the wood’s gone all dry."
“Okie kokie.”
“And, to find two more chairs 'cos the last lot what was in there-”
“Those Spanish ones from Madrid.”
“Yep, thems the ones, they damaged two of the chairs.”
“Bloody 'ells bells. I guess we’d best get cracking!”

Guidelines

There are no hard and fast rules, but here are some brief guidelines:

  • You can use the prompts as inspiration or try to work them into your story somehow. Use as many as you want.
  • When your story is done, post it online (your blog/twitter/in a comment here), tag with #wednesdaywritein and comment with a link so we can read it. You can write as many stories as you like.
  • Please take the time to read and comment on as many other stories as you can.

  2. Thanks Sarah! It's sometimes difficult because of the time difference (I'm in Hong Kong, so when the prompts go out at 9am, it's already 5pm here), but hopefully I'll become a regular contributor because it was fun! :)

I love the dialogue and the whole story of this behind-the-scenes moment.
I agree with Sarah. The humour is great.
